One of the wisest things I've been told by a well-known and much-loved photographer friend is that it's more important to capture a moment than to stress over the light and settings, ISO and aperture. "Embrace the grain!" And so I pass it on to you, because whether you're shooting with a point-and-shoot camera, your phone camera, or a high-quality DSLR, don't miss the precious moments in your life, especially with family. I'll add one further note.... don't dodge the camera! Even if you're not fully "made up" or if you feel like you don't want to be seen in photos, those who love you will want to have those images of you. It's hard--I know!--to not let self-conscious thoughts take over, but smile, enjoy the fun of the event, and don't dodge! This time of year is the perfect time to keep the photographs happening. You'll be so glad you have those images to share and to enjoy later. Here's an example from our house this evening... K.C. (as she's asking to be called lately) and her dad worked on our first ever gingerbread house. The light is not ideal. The background may be cluttered. The ISO is high, so the grainy effects are evident, but miss these smiles? To miss these moments that she will cherish--and HE will cherish--for years would be so wrong. You know it's going to be fun when Daddy is allowing direct icing ingestion! K.C. was the designer (boss), Daddy was the architect who made her vision come to life. The finished product... we were all quite impressed! Gingerbread kit, $6.99. Precious daddy-daughter time, priceless. Have a great Christmas, and keep that camera handy!

Finally the news is out, and I can share these fun photos! Big congrats to Rachel and Patrick! Can't wait to meet the little guy in March!
Leave them some love, and feel free to suggest names. :) Happy Birthday, McKayla!!Wishing you a super great first birthday, McKayla! Looking forward to the party this weekend, too! :)
It's always a treat to see kiddos grow from session to session. McKayla is a petite little princess, but she's still a feisty little fireball of energy! As long as she has the adults around her singing her favorite songs, she's happy to flash a smile, and even treated us to some pretty sweet dance moves! Here's just a few of the cute shots we got!
Contact us today to schedule your Simple Christmas Mini Session for this weekend! Openings 11/29 and 11/30! Leave McKayla a little sweet comment below, so that her parents can win a free 8x10! And stay tuned, McKayla's one-year session will be showing up on the blog soon, too! It's not uncommon when 4-year-olds think they are very funny, and very sassy, and it helps when they're also very cute! Silly little Arden was having fun showing her personality! Little sister Della is as sweet as they come, letting sister have the spotlight.... for now. :) Thanks for bringing them over, Skye!
Though she started out a bit wary of the situation (and maybe in a bit of a mood) Brynleigh came around and ended up giggling with us by the end. Rilynn was the perfect little gem, of course. It was a treat to get to see them. How can one NOT enjoy photographing such pretty little models??
Leave some love for the girls, help their proud mommy and daddy win a FREE 8x10 with 10 or more comments! It was SO good to see Blaise and his parents today!! He is growing so fast and is as busy as ever! He was so agreeable and fun today. Looking forward to seeing you soon, Blaise. :)
Remember to comment on this post to help him win a FREE 8x10! And we've got openings for next weekend's Simple Christmas Mini Sessions... reserve your spot today! This sweet family has been so fun every time we've done a session, whether it was cold at Christmas or sunny in spring. This time it was FREEZING but they pulled it off with only a few shivers. We kept it short and sweet, and got the job done. :) The kids are just so patient with the process and especially with the SUPER ideas that Meredith always has for the sessions. Talk about coming to a shoot with a vision! It's always a pleasure!
Comment below to help them win a FREE 8x10 of their choice! And remember, 11/22, 11/23, 11/29 & 11/30 are the dates for the in-studio Simple Christmas Mini Sessions. Images delivered by 12/6! MUCH warmer, and some really fun sets. It's not too late to have those photos for your Christmas cards! It's always a privilege to capture special moments for families. There's something extra special about the honor when those families are MY family. And I don't twist their arms or anything! It helps when my relatives are so darn good-lookin'. Right? And here they are, my brother, his wife, and their little princesses...
Don't forget to comment to help them win a FREE 8X10! And to keep up with all the great things going on at Larae Photography, be sure to "like" our Facebook page by using the link just up there at the right corner of the page. It's so nice when kids are energetic at sessions in a park! How better to celebrate a pretty day, right? These two were just about adorable with all the helpfulness with carrying gear and walking from place to place, and I was a little entertained by the good-natured sibling taunting. I had some bunny ears a few times when I wasn't looking, but we also managed to get some pretty sweet moments of these two busy blonde kiddos and their very nice parents. Tell them what you think! 10 comments gets them a FREE 8x10! And if your family still needs those special fall photos, there are session openings in the next few weeks before the colors fade and the last leaves fall. And do NOT miss the classic 5-year-old response to his parents' smooch... priceless!
